Valrhona Madagascar Event

Madagascar Tasting Event

Valrhona held live virtual tasting events earlier this year, showcasing our newest products from Madagascar, including our new vegan chocolate AMATIKA 46%! Discover a few ways to use our new vegan chocolate, AMATIKA 46% as well as single-origin Norohy Vanilla Beans and Manjari Dark Chocolate.

AMATIKA 46% follows the vegan movement for plant-based, indulgent food which is accessible and ethical. Savor the unique flavor profile, which highlights the single-origin Madagascan cocoa.

Vegan pastry promotes the use of natural, plant-based, and seasonal ingredients. Rather than using ingredients of animal origin such as eggs, cream, butter, and milk, it opts for ingredients with natural origins, and often organic farming.

About Madagascar

The country Madagascar is known as the big red island. It is the largest African island in the Indian Ocean, about 450 kilometers (280 miles) east of the coast of Mozambique, and the fourth largest island in the world. Madagascar is home to more than 22 million people. The capital and largest city is Antananarivo, and Malagasy and French are the official languages. Madagascar is a biodiversity hotspot with over 90% of its species found nowhere else in the world.

Vanilla & Cocoa

As a result of the large collection of soil types and climate variations, many varieties of temperate and tropical fruits are grown, including mangoes, lychees, grapes, and citrus, as well as a wide range of other crops, including coffee. Madagascar is known as the world's biggest producer of natural vanilla beans. Vanilla beans from Madagascar are the world's most high-quality vanilla beans and the leading standard for vanilla beans in the spice world.

The cocoa production in Madagascar, by contrast, is only about 5,000 tons a year (less than 0.1 percent of world cacao production), these cocoa beans are considered to be among the finest in the world. Natural minerals, soil, and microclimate combine to form a unique biome or "terroir" where Fine cocoa is renowned for its exceptional fruity flavors, including citrus, berries, and dried fruit.
