Food recovery network

Valrhona's Commitment

  • Valrhona will donate $1 for every 500g bag of STRAWBERRY INSPIRATION and $2 for every 3kg bag of STRAWBERRY INSPIRATION sold in North America with all proceeds going to The Food Recovery Network.
  • Valrhona also donated all proceeds of the US 2019 Valrhona Hot Chocolate Festival to The Food Recovery Network.

Our goal is to raise $10,000 for the Food Recovery Network to support its chapters in recovering approximately 9,000 pounds of food. This contribution will go toward grants to their chapters for materials and expenses, such as scales, hats, gloves, pans and transportation costs. A portion of the funding will also help the national office continue to operate as the hub for their diverse chapters across the country and will help them provide training opportunities. For example, the Food Recovery Network would like to encourage its students to glean on farms and farmers' markets. In order to do this, they need to develop educational materials to teach the students about gleaning and how they can glean fresh produce for their partner homeless shelters, soup kitchens, and food pantries.

ABOUT THE FOOD RECOVERY NETWORK

The Food Recovery Network is a national nonprofit organization that unites students at colleges and universities to fight food waste and hunger by recovering perishable food that would otherwise go to waste from their campus dining halls and donating it to those in need. Their goal is to change the norm from food waste to food recovery in the United States.

Today, The Food Recovery Network is the largest student movement fighting against food waste and hunger in the US, having recovered and donated more than 3.9 million pounds of food that otherwise would have gone to waste. That equates to more than 3.2 million meals that have gone to those in need and more than 6.8 million pounds of carbon dioxide prevented from reaching the atmosphere. The Food Recovery Network’s reach now goes far beyond universities. Through Food Recovery Verified, The Food Recovery Network helps businesses recover and donate surplus food to hunger-fighting nonprofit organizations in their communities. Any food business that recovers food at least once a month and donates to a nonprofit organization is eligible to become verified.

The Food Recovery Network is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization. All donations and membership dues are tax-deductible.

About Food Recovery Verified

Through our Food Recovery Verified program, the Food Recovery Network recognizes food businesses and events that are working to fight waste and feed people through food recovery. Food Recovery Verified serves as a third-party verification for food businesses and events that donate surplus food to hunger-fighting non-profit organizations.

Their team offers support and resources to food businesses and events seeking verification. Using their expertise, they help applicants design and implement custom food recovery programs for their businesses and events, which in turn have a positive impact on local communities and the environment.
