Art of Plating Rising Talent

In 2019, The Art of Plating debuted its inaugural Rising Talent list, a list of 16 outstanding culinary and hospitality professionals that typically go unrecognized in conventional awards. Having taken a step back in 2020 given the events of the world and their profound impact on the restaurant industry, TAOP is now returning in 2021 to continue its mission in supporting future food, beverage, and hospitality leaders.

Now more than ever, it feels important to honor and celebrate the accomplishments of the unsung heroes of the culinary world. From the farmers that grow gorgeous produce to the entrepreneurs making an impact, to the photographers that capture the beauty of a dish, there are so many individuals working behind the scenes in this industry’s complex ecosystem. The pandemic was devastating, but it also revealed resiliency, commitment, and a passion for the craft that may not have been as obvious before.

This year’s awards will highlight 16 diverse individuals that not only excel in their craft but have come out of the pandemic stronger than ever.

On August 16, The Art of Plating will announce the 36 semifinalists for the Rising Talent list which will then be judged by this year’s Committee Members. The official 2021 Rising Talent list will be released on October 25. This year’s Committee consists of an all-star lineup of food and beverage professionals:

  • Dominique Ansel, Chef-Owner Dominique Ansel Bakery
  • Nina Compton, Chef-Owner of Compere Lapin
  • Dominique Crenn, Chef-Owner Atelier Crenn
  • Brian Canlis, Restauranteur and Co-Owner of Canlis Restaurant
  • Amar Lalvani, Hotelier and CEO of Standard Hotel Group
  • Jordan Salcito, Founder of Ramona
  • Maria Nguyen, Founder of The Art of Plating

Rising Talent Committee Members will help to ensure that a variety of voices are represented in this year’s list. The list will represent the future of the hospitality industry––one that is more inclusive, diverse, and offers opportunities for people with a variety of backgrounds.

This year’s Rising Talent initiatives are supported by Perrier-Jouët and Valrhona, two companies that have aligned with The Art of Plating in their commitment to support next-generation talents and belief in investing in individuals who are pushing the industry forward.
